Digitalisation of work processes is cost effective, ensures greater production efficiency, delivers outstanding results and helps to maintain a smooth working environment. The numerous benefits are the reason behind the concept being a hit across all the leading countries in the machine tool sector such as China, Germany, Japan, USA and Italy.
Developing in the manufacturing sector
Looking at the success of digitalisation in these countries, other markets have also followed suit. For instance, India has recently begun to strongly focus on its manufacturing sector, for which the machine tool industry plays an eminent role, via its ‘Make in India’ campaign. The country’s industry is dominated with SMEs (Small and Medium sized Enterprises) and hence there is a need to encourage its SMEs to adopt digitalisation in their production processes to increase their productivity and efficiency. The Indian SMEs are responsible for 38 % of the country’s GDP (Gross domestic product), 37 % to its manufacturing output and 40 % to India’s exports.
Developing manufacturing markets such as Taiwan are also taking advantage of this scenario by focussing on becoming a global manufacturing hub for intelligent machinery and high-end equipment. Digitalisation is the need of the hour and the island country seems to be striking the iron when it’s hot. Other major markets that lead in this segment include Japan, Germany, Italy and Switzerland.
Some of the leading players enabling the global industry to make their digitalisation shift smoother include Danobat Group, Renishaw, Trumpf and many more. Danobat Group has come up with services such as real-time monitoring which streams live the status of the main parts of the machine, reporting through which a member can summarise the machine’s activity and update the concerned people of useful information when taking a decision, analytics based on real and historical machine data, and a lot more.
Market leader Renishaw has also introduced a range of products to simplify the use of on-machine probing using digital technology, so that users can implement process control more easily. One of the solutions includes the GoProbe software that can easily navigate through a complex programming language to probe machine tools. In addition to this, a mobile phone app allows the user to generate a single line of machine code which they can run immediately for automated process control tasks. All these parameters assist industry players to stay on top of their game.
Considering the importance of digitalisation in today’s world, the international trade fair for metal working, AMB is expected to host a special show titled ‘Digital Way 2018’ wherein visitors can learn how to successfully incorporate digitalisation in their processes.
